Carson Sofro…HSB Academy’s Co-Founder and Director, Carson Sofro (Ketchum, ID) has dedicated his life to the development and betterment of thousands of student athletes. A decorated collegiate standout and semi-professional athlete, since 2007, Sofro has trained, mentored, and impacted more than 4,000 young men and women throughout the western United States. Michael Quinney…Following in the footsteps of his mentor Howard Gamble, Michael Quinney (Oakland, CA) has committed his life to serving and mentoring an up and coming generation. A highly touted high school, collegiate, and professional star, Quinney was destined for playing greatness before a slew of knee injures sidelined his career. Switching from player to coach, Quinney has spent much of the last decade coaching, teaching, and training thousands of athletes hosting various camps and leagues as well as holding the head coaching position at Oakland’s Technical High School. All HSB Academy sessions are co-educational. We open our sessions to both boys and girls, as our main focus is on individual skill building and basketball development, not just playing games.
HSB Academy offers superior training and world-class instruction for a fraction of the price of similar programs. We instill the HSB spirit of Hard Work, Sacrifice, and Believe in all of our young athletes, encouraging them not only to pursue their own dreams and ambitions, but also to serve and give back to their communities. We strive to equip every participant with the power, confidence, and knowledge to make a lasting impact both on and off the court.
No, HSB Academy sessions are open to the public and no membership at any of the respective facilities is required to participate.
GROUP TRAINING SESSIONS
Group Training Sessions are designed to challenge young athletes at all levels and abilities. Offering a comprehensive curriculum of fundamental drills, intense situational training, and organized group competition, each session is structured to push players like never before.
PRIVATE WORKOUTS
For parents and players seeking more one-on-one individualized attention and personalized development workouts.
HSB Academy is committed to training athletes of all ages and athletic abilities. Our staff is trained to accommodate all skill levels to ensure that every participant leaves each training session with a sense of accomplishment.
Parents, family members and friends, are more than welcome to stay and watch each workout session as spectators only. Please, save all questions/ comments for staff (or your child) until the end of each session. We ask that all younger children, not participating in the session, be kept out of the gym, as this can distract the focus of players and coaches.
HSB Academy sessions will begin promptly at their scheduled time. Academy staff will be available 15 minutes prior to the start of each workout and will leave immediately upon its conclusion. We strongly encourage and request that all parents arrive for drop-off and pick-up in a timely manner. Multiple violations will result in additional fees or even dismissal from the Academy.
Participants are encouraged to bring comfortable athletic clothing as well as basketball appropriate footwear. Although participants may bring water and sports drinks, please leave all personal basketballs at home. We have plenty of basketballs for everyone in attendance and will not be responsible for lost or stolen personal items.
At HSB Academy we recommend that every participant trains with our staff at least twice a week to ensure results.

There is no specific registration deadline for any of our sessions; yet, we do encourage participants to register as soon as possible. Academy sessions are limited to the first 24 registrations (unless otherwise posted) — **no exceptions.
Discounts and scholarships will be available to those in need. To seek financial aid, please fill out our online scholarship request form.
Cancellations of any kind and for any reason will be refunded in an Academy credit. Credit is valid for any HSB Academy session offered within six months of cancellation and is transferable to any family member or friend. For Private Workouts, cancellations must be given 24 hours in advance of each session or a “no show” fee will apply.
Payment options are available on all HSB Academy sessions. A minimum deposit of $25 is required during registration. When using this option, 100% of all remaining balances must be paid in full prior to the first day of participation.

HSB Academy sessions are priced on an hourly basis. Academy sessions range in price from roughly $12.50 an hour for group training all the way to $60 for a one-on-one private workout.
HSB Academy’s staff is comprised of former NBA, NBADL, CBA, International, and NCAA coaches and players. Selected from all over the country and the world, our coaches provide every participant with the highest level of education possible, through their wealth of knowledge. Their commitment to the game and to this program, allows players to leave with a truly unique experience.
Many basketball programs use the power of high profile names to drive registrations. These so-called “meet and greet” programs are organized autograph sessions where highlighted speakers or guests spend limited time (if any), at the actual event. At HSB Academy we do things differently. Our All-Star staff of collegiate and professional coaches and players spends endless time and effort working one-on-one with every player in attendance.

For the second time in just three weeks, American Guard Perry Petty, has been honored by EuroBasket.com, as Romania’s top performer. The 6’0 Wisconsin product, led Giurgiu to their 9th victory of the season (30 points and 11 rebounds), beating Dinamo B 101-62 Saturday night. Arguably Giurgiu’s best player, Petty is having a breakout year averaging just over 17 points and 4 assists per contest, while shooting better than 54% from the field. In only his first season with the club, Petty is amongst the leagues top performers ranked 4th in scoring and 9th in assists in all of Romanian Division A. Stay tuned for more to come.
Though all other sessions will operate on a regular schedule Monday, there will be no 4:30pm group in Eagle as I have had to extend my trip and will not be back until Tuesday. To keep things manageable for Mike I have decided to cancel the 4:30pm session in Eagle and as always truly apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused any of you. I promise that I will make it up to the kids and hope to return to Boise on Tuesday with our biggest announcement to date. Over there, it wasn’t about competition and traveling around and being a big deal; it was about fundamentals, footwork, spacing, back cuts — all of those things. When I came back it was about acclimating myself to the competition, but I had all the fundamentals they didn’t have. Look at Pau Gasol. Same thing. Look at all the skills he has compared to the guys who grew up playing AAU ball.”
Although we will operate on a regular schedule today, due to a last minute trip to Houston, and Havoc Nation’s scheduled tournament in Spokane this weekend, I am writing to let all of you know that there will be no HSB Academy training sessions in Eagle tomorrow 2/22 or Sunday 2/24. This will include all sessions and all groups. On behalf of Mike and myself I would like to truly and thoroughly apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused, and want you all to know that we are working diligently to make sure this doesn’t happen again. On a positive note this trip to Houston could lead to perhaps one of the most exciting announcements in our history so keep your fingers crossed. It was the Perry Petty show Saturday night in Giurgiu, Romania, as the 6’1 guard dropped 39 points, leading his squad to a 104-99 victory over ninth ranked Rovinari. Productive on both ends of the floor, Petty finished out the evening with 39 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists for the home team. Winners of two of their last three, Petty and Giurgiu will hit the road later this week to take on fourth ranked U-Mobitelco in Cluj Napoca. A full report is forthcoming.

If there was one thing Dragon fans could count on night after night this season, it was the consistent play of American swingman Mike Harris. Sunday’s game in Hangzhou against the seventh ranked Lions was no different. Harris posted his 34th double-double of the season with 24 points and 12 rebounds in a 116-100 defeat. Despite holding a 3-point lead at the end of the first quarter, a 27-15 Lions run in the second proved too much for Harris and the visiting Dragons to overcome. Bringing an end to a major rebuilding year, Jiangsu wrapped up its 2012-2013 campaign in the 12th spot, a significant improvement over the previous years squad that finished in dead last.
A bitter end to a promising season, Harris returns home to Houston this week with the love and admiration of the thousands that watched and supported him throughout the year in China. A league leader in both scoring and rebounding, Mike posted a double-double literally each and every time he stepped on the floor, shooting better than 60% from the field and 85% from the free throw line. The question Dragon fans have now is not how good their star player is, but where he will end up next. A solid performer in every league he has played, Harris’s stock is high and fans both at home and abroad expect to see him in an NBA uniform in the coming weeks. He has certainly proved he will be a solid addition to any team looking for consistent production and hustle night after night. Stay tuned!

It was another big night and another double-double in the record books for NBA veteran and HSB Academy alumn Mike Harris and the Jiangsu Dragons. Despite a waive of double teams on the defensive end, Harris dominated posting 23 points and 12 rebounds for the victors while shooting better than 65% from the field. With much of the spotlight shinning heavily on former NBA All-Star Tracy McGrady and his visiting Eagles, it was clear from the jump that Harris and his Dragons would steal the show. “It’s always fun to play in such an amazing atmosphere, especially when it is against a former teammate like Tracy,” Harris explained.
Although this is not the first time the two have met on the court, it is one of the few times they have met as opponents. Both were members of Houston’s memorable 2007-2008 run, where the franchise won 22 consecutive games, marking the second longest winning streak in league history. With just 3 games left in the CBA season, we will be following closely to see how Harris and his squad finish out their 2013 campaign. Stay tuned!
